Joy & Suffering/Sorrow
2 Corinthians 12: 7-10 (King James Version)
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might be depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace if sufficient for thee: for my strength is made prefect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
-I really love this. This was Paul talking to God and asking him to remove “a thorn in the flesh.” He requested this three times from God. God told Paul that his grace is enough and that his “strength is made perfect in weakness.” When we are weak and going through a situation that is when God’s strength is perfect in us. Paul’s response to that was keep me weak so that the power of God “may rest upon me.”
-Once we truly understand that God is strongest with us when we are going through our suffering and sorrow; that is when we will walk in his true joy. God’s joy is being happy when you are going through your worse suffering and sorrow. When we understand that God is with us and as long as we are walking on the path that he has laid out for us and when we are on this path, no real harm will ever come before us. Lord, teach me how to rejoice in the mist of my suffering and sorrow because I understand that is when you are strongest in me.
