The Fiery Furnace
Read Daniel 3
-This story is about King Nebuchadnezzar and how he created this golden image. He wrote a decree that stated when the people of the land heard the sound of music they were to get on their knees and worship the image. The King further stated, that if the people did not fall down and worship the golden image they would be “cast into the mist of a burning fiery furnace,” (Dan. 3:6).
-There were these three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that would not heed the kings command. When the king found out he brought them forth and questioned them about it. Their reply was, “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up,” (Dan. 3: 17-18).
-This made the king furious. He ordered that the furnace be heated three times hotter. Then he cast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the fire. When they were in the fire the king asked, “Did not we cast three men bound into the mist of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king,” (Dan. 3:24). The king said that he saw four men walking lose in the fire and that the fourth was like the son of man. At once, he ordered them out of the fire and when they came out of the fire they were not harmed. There wasn’t even any evidence that they had even been in the fire. When the king saw how God delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, he made a new decree that stated that everyone should worship and fear the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. If they did not, they would be cut into pieces and their house would be made into a dunghill. After that the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
-This week we will address the lessons learned from this story.
“Lord, please open my heart to receive your words and lessons that you teach me this week. Please help me to be a doing of your word and not just a reader of it”
