The Fiery Furnace
Lesson One:
Through the Fire
Daniel 3: 19-23 (King James Version)
“Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.”
-This story ends with God delivering Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego from the fiery furnace. So the question is, Why did they have to even go through the fire, if God was just going to deliver them any way? God could have stopped them from even going through the fire. However, that is not what God did. He allowed them to go through the fire. If God had sent an angel to stop them from going through the fire, it would not have made the same impression. Yes, everyone would have said, “WOW, your God did deliver you because if you would have gone through the fire, you would’ve surely died.” God was showing that there will be fires that we have to go though, however, he will be with us and deliver us out of them all.
-The bible tells us that “no weapon formed against us shall prosper,” (Isaiah 54:17). The key word is formed. Weapons will be formed and there will be fires that we must go through. This is done so that in the end of it all we can know that God is the most high God. God wants us to see that without Him we can accomplish nothing. He will not give his glory to anther or His praise to graven images (Is. 54:17). “Lord, please keep me mindful that what ever weapon forms against me or what ever fire I must go through that you will be with me through it all.”
